Book Excerpt
Together, Purpee and Stinky strolled through the park on their way to Shelly and Sunny’s house. It was a beautiful spring morning. The flowers were blooming and the pond looked cool and refreshing.
As they passed by some large oak trees, Purpee looked up and saw a big odd shaped object sitting on one of the tree branches. He pointed up in the tree and said, “Stinky, look at that funny looking yellow ball!”
“I wonder what it is,” Stinky replied. “We’ll just have to climb up the tree and find out!” shouted Purpee.
Stinky said, “I don’t think this is such a good idea, Purpee. Remember, we don’t want to be late for school,” but he was too late. Purpee was already halfway up the tree.
Purpee was now very close to the yellow object in the tree. He looked down and said, “Stinky, get ready to catch it when I throw it down to you.” Stinky stood on the ground underneath Purpee with a nervous look on his face and his arms stretched out ready to catch the ball-shaped thing.
Just as Purpee was about to reach out and grab the object, he heard a buzzing sound that got louder and louder. He ignored the sound, but as he put his hand on the side of the object, he realized that it was a beehive! Just then, a group of angry bees flew out of the hive.
Purpee quickly climbed down the tree, shouting out, “It’s a beehive! Run Stinky, run!” Purpee jumped down from the tree and they both ran as fast as they could, but the bees were catching up to them.
Stinky suddenly remembered that bees don’t like water, so he yelled, “Purpee, head for the pond!”
